Singlit 2018 was hosted within Bras Basah Complex this year. The underlying theme is “City of Books” which has been affectionately termed by many who frequent the location. Bookshops, publishers and art studios; just some of the tenants that reside in Bras Basah Complex

With that in mind, a publication was created to reflect the culture of Bras Basah Complex, that of which included kitschy elements such as the plastic comb bind, the use of copier paper and the plastic cover that protects the inner pages.

The publication’s sequence follows that which is vast at first, with topics like “Images of Books” and “Words related to books” but gradually becomes myopic, with focus on three specific bookstores and the titles they carry. After which, the reader is brought back through a wide lens with sections such as “Cities in books” and “City names in Books”.

This gives the reader a sense of the topic selected, whilst bearing in mind the title of Bras Basah Complex.

Three separate artists were commissioned to create their works and display them at said bookstores for public viewing.
